Jazz
This class is for the student who wishes to learn the technique and various styles of Modern Jazz Dance. The class consists of a warm-up, jazz/ballet technique and strong dynamic stylized combinations done to a variety of upbeat music.
It is recommended that those dancer’s who wish to enroll in jazz take at least one ballet class to strengthen their technique. Students who include ballet as part of their dance training, will experience its technical benefits.
Ages: 6+
Jazz class runs 60 minutes in length.
What to Wear
For all jazz and lyrical classes, hair must be up in a bun or ponytail and out of your face so the instructor has a clear view of the body without distraction.
Beginner Jazz: Tank leotard, tights, and beige jazz shoes.
Pre-Elementary & Elementary: Tank leotard, tights or leggings. Can wear a tank top over the bodysuit as long as it is tight fitting. Beige jazz shoes
Intermediate & Advanced: Tight fitting tank top with leggings or tank leotard and tights with tank top and leggings over top. Beige jazz shoes.
Boys: Black or white T-shirt, leggings, shorts or sweatpants. Beige jazz shoes.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
All dance forms have ballet technique as their base. Students with strong ballet technique will progress more rapidly in other dance forms. We strongly encourage students who study jazz, tap, or musical theatre to include a ballet class as part of their training.
Students who wish to intensify their training in a particular dance style should take more than one class, as well as ballet, to enhance their development of technique. Students taking more than one class per week, including one of each of the different dance styles, will enjoy the technical crossover benefits.
Please be aware that students do not necessarily advance to the next level each year. Often it takes at least 2 years to learn, complete, and be proficient in the technical work of each level. Please see the teacher or coordinators for the appropriate class placement each year.
